He INVENTED motion graphics?!

John Whitney is considered by many the father of animated motion graphics. Back in the 60's, he deviced a machine based on an analog 40's military anti-artilery predicting computer to create a very special type of slit-scan effect machine. Can you imagine how he even came up with this?
